Ireland's top-selling solo artist Frances Black plays The Anvil in Basingstoke next Thursday. Frances began her professional singing career in 1986 when she toured with her family to promote The Black Family album. She then joined the traditional group Arcady but launched her solo career in 1993. A succession of singles and albums followed. Her first album Talk to Me was number one in the Irish charts for eight weeks. Her songs range from the traditional to upbeat country to ballads. Her third album The Smile On Your Face went straight to number four, receiving a platinum on its first day of release.

Frances' fourth album came out in August. • Tickets: 01256 844244.
