THE new season at Newark Palace Theatre gets under way with three concerts offering the best in folk, country and rock and roll.

Friday, September 25, brings Irish country show band The Indians. This colourful group plays a mixture of pop, country and rock and roll.

Dressed in their unmistakable Red Indian outfits, Rising Sun (Paul Brady), Sitting Bull (Eamonn Keane), Little Thunder (Chris Mullahy) Crazy Horse (Brian Woodfull) and Dull Knife (Tommy Hopkins) have a loyal following.

The evening will be compered by Barry Thistleton, and The Indians will be supported by Steve Cherelle, John Denver winner of TV's Stars in Your Eyes.

On Sunday, September 27 The Eddie Cochran Show will be kicking up a rumpus. Darrel Higham stars as the first rock and roll rebel and the show features all of Eddie's hit songs.

Darrel sings such hits as Summertime Blues, Twenty Flight Rock, C'mon Everybody, Three Steps to Heaven, and Weekend, plus a smattering of top covers.

On Thursday, October 1 Frances Black, for many years the unsurpassed queen of Irish folk music, will be performing her only tour date in the region.

Frances began singing in 1986 with her family, including famous older sister Mary, recording two popular albums including Time For Touching Home. She soon joined group Arcady and went solo in 1993.

In 1994/5 she was Ireland's top selling solo artist. Her Talk To Me album and the All The Lies That You Told Me single were two of the biggest hits by an Irish female artist.

She won the Irish Record Music Industry Awards for Best Irish Female and Most Popular Artist.

Her new album Don't Get Me Wrong has just been released by Sony Music. Her new single Lost and Found is out soon.

All concert performances begin at 7.30pm with tickets available from the theatre box office on 01636 671156 and Palace Theatre ticket agents priced between £7 and £9.

Lowdham Horticultural Society will hold its annual summer show at the village hall and playing fields opening at 1pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

The event will feature sideshows, skittles, raffle, produce stall, tombola and childrens games and the presentation of prizes will be at 4.15pm. Anyone is welcome to attend.
